Common Base Fabrics for Embroidery
Pure Cotton Fabrics: Soft, skin-friendly, moisture-absorbent, and breathable; these are the standard base materials for everyday clothing and embroidered home textiles, suitable for various flat embroidery stitches.
Silk Fabrics: Including silk satin and silk organza; these feature a soft, pearlescent luster and a fine, non-stretchy texture, making them the preferred choice for high-end hand embroidery and double-sided embroidery.
Chemical Fiber Fabrics: Such as synthetic satin and chiffon; these offer high luster and low cost, making them ideal for beginners practicing or for mass-produced machine embroidery. Certain highly translucent chiffon varieties can also be used for specialized double-sided embroidery techniques.
Cotton-Linen/Hand-Woven Cloth: Thick and durable with a distinct texture; suitable for embroidery with coarse cotton threads, these are frequently used for folk-style textile embroidery.
Voile/Organdy: Densely woven with excellent light transmission; however, due to poor durability and difficulty in preservation, these have become less common as standard embroidery base fabrics in recent years.
